I met a travel buddy named Xiang Ying online, I embarked on my first long-distance backpacking trip. We had never met in person, but she decided to travel around Taiwan first, and then we traveled together to China and joined a tour group to North Korea.
During our journey, we met many new friends and gained a deeper understanding of the mysterious China, beyond what we had seen on TV news. This long-distance trip made me more certain of my love for being a backpacker and independent travel, and it inspired me to embark on adventure after adventure.
