While in France, I went to a restaurant and tried Galettes, and I was surprised at how delicious they were! So when I arrived in Toulouse, my French host from Couchsurfing taught me how to make Galettes. I found that making this delicacy is not difficult at all!
Now, let’s take a look at how to make this light meal from western France—Galettes! 😋😋😋

Ingredients
Buckwheat Flour | 4 tablespoons (about 40g) |
Oil | 10g approx. |
Eggs | 2 |
Water | 300ml |
Bacon | 2 Slices |
Cheese | 2 Slices |
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Batter
- Add 4 tablespoons of buckwheat flour.
- Add 2 eggs and mix well.
- Add a small amount of oil, water, and salt.
- If the batter is too dry, add more water; if too runny, add more buckwheat flour until the batter reaches the right consistency.
Step 2: Cook the Batter
- Heat a frying pan on high heat and add a small amount of oil or butter. Don’t add too much; just ensure the batter doesn’t stick to the pan.
- Once the oil is hot, turn to medium heat and pour in the batter. The batter will quickly set, and after a while you can flip it over.
Step 3: Add the Ingredients
- After pouring in the batter, add the pre-cooked bacon and cheese.
- Crack an egg on top, and add pepper and salt. You can add other seasonings according to your taste.
- Fold the four edges of the crepe and cover with a lid to cook the egg.
Step 4: Finish
Once the egg is cooked, the Galette is ready to enjoy!
Although it might not look as refined as from a restaurant, it definitely tastes just as yummy! Besides the savory Galettes, we also made an apple-flavored one, which has a sweet and sour taste.
