As a country with a long and rich history located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, Turkey has in recent years become both a major tourist hotspot and a destination experiencing a sharp rise in the number of refugees. At the same time, it’s also perceived as a place of political instability—highly sought after by travellers, yet often approached with hesitation.
In the past, Taiwanese travellers had to go through multiple layovers and apply for a visa through the Turkish representative office in Taiwan. But since the end of March 2015, the introduction of direct flights from Taiwan to Turkey, along with the launch of the Turkish e-Visa system in February 2016, has made travelling to Turkey significantly more convenient.
Due to political unrest in 2016, tourism to Turkey dropped sharply. That said, news coverage often amplifies the negatives. In reality, during my visit, I didn’t feel any sense of chaos or insecurity. On the contrary, with fewer tourists around, the streets felt more relaxed, and prices for things like hot air balloon rides and accommodations were noticeably lower than in previous years.
Here’s a quick guide on how to apply for a Turkish e-Visa!
Online e-Visa Application
To get started, head over to the official Republic of Turkey Electronic Visa Application System. The website now supports a Chinese version, so filling out the form should be fairly straightforward.
Start Your Application
Once you’re on the homepage, click Apply Now to begin your application.

Country/Region
Choose Canada as your country/region. For passport type, select Ordinary Passport. Enter the CAPTCHA code shown on the screen, then click Save and Continue.

Date of Arrival
Choose your planned date of arrival in Turkey. You can select an earlier date if you’re unsure, as the visa is valid for 180 days from your chosen arrival date.
For example, if you apply for a visa from August 30 to September 30, the visa will be valid from August 30 to February 25 the following year. However, the visa only allows one single entry, and you may stay for up to 30 days.
There might be a payment section shown below, but don’t worry—it’s free for Taiwanese passport holders. Just click Save and Continue.

Prerequisites
There are four checkboxes on this page that must all be ticked before you can proceed to the next step.

Personal Information
Fill in your personal details. Once completed, you’ll reach the final page of the application.

Application Complete
After submitting, a PDF version of your e-Visa will be sent directly to your email address.

Download & Print
Make sure to print a physical copy of the e-Visa. You’ll need to present it along with your passport when entering Turkey.
