London summers can get surprisingly hot, and during a stretch of over 30°C days, the only thing I could think about was finding something cold and sweet to cool down. While wandering around Stratford, I stumbled upon Amorino Gelato, an Italian gelato brand with locations all over Europe.
Founded in 2002 by childhood friends Cristiano and Paolo, Amorino is known for its authentic Italian gelato and its signature rose-shaped cones that are as pretty as they are delicious. This particular shop was tucked inside a shopping mall — small but beautifully decorated. The gelato counter was filled with rows of neatly displayed flavours that looked absolutely irresistible. In addition to classic gelato, Amorino also serves macarons, crêpes, and hot drinks, making it a cozy spot even in colder weather.
For my first try, I picked three flavours:
- Peanut: Rich and creamy, though I still personally prefer the peanut flavours back in Taiwan.
- Yogurt: A perfect balance of tangy and sweet with a super smooth texture. This one really surprised me in the best way.
- Lemon: Incredibly refreshing and zesty — absolute heaven for someone like me who loves sour flavours. That natural citrus kick was exactly what I needed on a hot day!
About a month later, while heading to Leicester Square with a friend, we passed by another Amorino location. Of course, we couldn’t resist and ended up grabbing two more rose cones.
- All-Chocolate Combo: My friend chose this one, filled with different types of chocolate flavours. Some were darker and slightly bitter, others were sweet and smooth. Surprisingly, the variety made the whole experience more layered and complex. If you’re a chocolate lover, this combo is definitely worth trying.
- Fruity & Colourful Rose: I’m more of a fruit-flavour person, so mine was a rainbow of fruity goodness — it looked just as amazing as it tasted! The outer brown layer was chocolate, followed by raspberry (red), mango (yellow), mawardi pistachio sorbet (light green), and lemon (white) in the centre. The mix of fruity and chocolate flavours was a bit unusual, so I found it best to eat each petal separately. The chocolate wasn’t too sweet, raspberry and mango were spot on, and the pistachio had a nice nutty texture to it. But the lemon… wow. Super sour — in the best way possible!
Amorino is far more than just a pretty dessert shop — their gelato is made with quality ingredients, their flavours are diverse, and the rose presentation adds such a charming touch. Whether you’re into rich, nutty and chocolatey flavours or prefer something light, fruity, or tart like yogurt and lemon, there’s definitely something here for you.
If you’re travelling through London or spot an Amorino in another European city, don’t hesitate to treat yourself. One bite of this rose-shaped gelato, and you’ll see why it’s such a hit!
