When I first arrived in the UK, I tried the famous The Breakfast Club (click here for a full review), and it left such an impression that I’ve been hooked on English Breakfast ever since. Then one day, while chatting with a friend, I learned about another must-visit spot: Caravan King’s Cross — a super popular brunch spot not far from the train station. Great food, amazing desserts, and a perfect place to celebrate my friend’s birthday!
Caravan King’s Cross Restaurant is just a 5-minute walk from King’s Cross Station, right next to a large open plaza with a fountain — basically a dream space for kids to run around. Even though the weather was a bit gloomy, the kids were still having the time of their lives splashing around!
Once inside, we were met with a full house — the place was buzzing with energy. While it was a bit noisy, the open kitchen added a professional and hygienic vibe. There’s also a bar area, perfect if you’re just looking to unwind with a coffee or a drink. Despite not having a reservation, we got lucky thanks to the rainy weather and were seated within minutes.
- Cappuccino: A warm cup to start the meal. Beautiful latte art and a rich, fragrant brew — exactly what I needed.
- Caravan Fry: A classic fry-up featuring eggs, bacon, grilled tomato, and toast. The flavours were simple but balanced. The tomato added a nice acidic contrast, and while the bacon was a bit salty on its own, it paired well with the bread.
- Sweet Potato and Cumin Waffle: Visually a little… intense, but surprisingly tasty. I expected it to be a dessert, but it was actually savoury — a unique twist!
- Red Quinoa and Buckwheat Grain Bowl: I wasn’t totally sure what this was at first (the name came from the receipt). It turned out to be a cold grain salad, kind of like chewy wheat berries. Not usually my thing, but definitely a hit if you’re into healthy dishes.
- Chapel and Swan Smoked Salmon, Soft Scrambled Eggs, Grain Toast: A bit of a mouthful on the menu, but essentially just smoked salmon and eggs on toast. Lightly salted salmon and creamy scrambled eggs — simple, but well executed.
Since we were celebrating a birthday, we ordered a couple of desserts — and wow, they completely stole the show. I honestly think the sweets here are even better than the mains!
- Chocolate Torte: This one was a total surprise. Not too sweet, super smooth, and paired beautifully with tart red berries and ice cream. It was so well balanced it basically outshined the entire meal.
- Vanilla Ice Cream with Espresso Salted Caramel: Sounds basic, but this combo was divine. Most caramel desserts get cloying fast, but not this one. I kept digging in until the bowl was scraped clean — 100% recommend.
If you’re visiting London and plan to stop by King’s Cross Station (maybe to snap a photo at Platform 9¾), don’t miss Caravan King’s Cross. It’s an excellent brunch spot with fair prices, flavourful mains, and next-level desserts. The only downside? It gets crowded and a bit noisy — but trust me, the desserts alone are worth the visit.
