The Old Spaghetti Factory is a chain of Italian restaurants known for its vintage decor and affordable meals. This time, we met up with friends at the New Westminster location. Since it was dinner time, we had about a 10 minute wait before being seated.
The interior is filled with nostalgic charm, featuring an old-fashioned streetcar and antique decor, with some seating even located inside the carriage. This unique setting adds a lot of fun to group gatherings and makes it a popular spot for photos. Before the main dishes arrived, we were served bread, which was a perfect appetizer, and free refills were available. The bread is also great for dipping into pasta sauces.
Here are a few of the items we ordered:
- Mojito: Refreshing, with hints of lemon and mint, and 2 oz. of alcohol. For those not used to alcohol, it might be slightly intoxicating.
- Seafood Linguine Marinara: This seafood pasta includes bay scallops, clams, prawns, and blue mussels in a garlic marinara sauce, bursting with fresh flavors. A squeeze of lemon adds balance, making it perfect for seafood lovers. The only minor downside was that the sauce was a bit light, letting the seafood flavors overpower the pasta, but it was still tasty.
- Spaghetti with Spicy Meat Sauce: The spaghetti is paired with a house-made spicy meat sauce, where the mild heat and Parmesan cheese blend perfectly with the pasta for a classic, rich Italian dish.
Each pasta dish came Minestrone Soup or Crisp Green Salad, Spumoni Ice Cream, and Hot Tea or Coffee, making it a great deal. The tea pots are unique but tricky to pour from due to the heat. The salad was fresh but nothing extraordinary. We finished with Spumoni ice cream—a small bowl with just the right amount of sweetness, a great ending to the meal.
The Old Spaghetti Factory offers not only affordable meals but also a fun atmosphere, making it ideal for gatherings with friends or family dinners. The friendly, good-looking staff also adds to the overall experience, providing a treat for both the eyes and taste buds!
