In a small town called Page, located in Arizona, USA, there’s a Mexican restaurant called El Tapatio. The restaurant is near our meeting spot for the Antelope Canyon tour, and had great online reviews, so we had to check it out.
You can spot the building’s bright orange exterior from a distance, which is both eye-catching and vibrant. Upon entering the restaurant, the colorful decor, along with Mexican-style murals and furnishings, immediately caught our attention. As soon as we sat down, the server brought us menus and a basket of tortilla chips with salsa, allowing us to munch while browsing the menu.
- Combo Appetizer: This was the first dish to arrive—a combination of classic Mexican appetizers. It’s a great option for those who are new to Mexican cuisine and want to try a bit of everything. It comes with nachos, quesadilla, and chicken taquitos, served with green onions, tomatoes, guacamole, and sour cream. The flavors were distinct and full of character.
- Burrito Chipotle: This burrito was filled with shredded chicken and chipotle sauce. With every bite, the spiciness filled my mouth, offering a real kick. The rice, when mixed with the chipotle sauce, was equally flavorful. If you enjoy spicy food, this is a must-try.
- Burrito Beef: This burrito was packed with beef and topped with a red sauce. For beef lovers, this is the dish to go for.
- Carnitas Taco & Asada Taco: Carnitas is a shredded pork taco, while Asada is a grilled steak taco. I preferred the shredded pork; it had more texture and, paired with the toppings, was not too greasy.
Overall, the food at this restaurant was quite good, with authentic flavors at a moderate price. You can find all the staple Mexican dishes here, and it’s located right in the heart of Page. If you’re done with your Antelope Canyon tour and not sure where to eat, and if you like spicy Mexican food, this place is definitely worth a visit!
