Although Xiluo Township in Yunlin County is quite close to my home, I rarely visit this area. This time, my family and I decided to go on a day trip, and after that, we chose to have dinner at LaoLaiShou Hot Pot(來壽屋鍋物). The restaurant’s exterior is sleek and modern with a strong Japanese aesthetic, and it even has its own parking lot. LaoLaiShou Hot Pot primarily serves hot pots, but due to the popularity of Korean cuisine, they have also added “Korean BBQ” to their menu.
When the menu arrived, I didn’t hesitate to order the LaoLaiShou Hot Pot Beef Hot Pot. The broth is made from a carefully simmered Japanese dashi, free of MSG, allowing the natural sweetness of onions and the rich flavor of bonito to shine through. The beef slices at the restaurant are beautifully marbled, with a fresh and even pattern that makes your mouth water just by looking at them. My cousin ordered the French Cheese Milk Hot Pot, where the rich, creamy milk is perfectly combined with the Japanese broth. The 100% Domestic Pork was tender and flawless.
My mom ordered for the Hot Pot + Korean BBQ (Mildly Spicy). The marinated pork was grilled on the pan, releasing an irresistible aroma. The design of the Korean BBQ grill was also unique, with the meat grilling in the center while the surrounding area was used to cook vegetables and hot pot ingredients—a truly versatile and value-packed experience. The grilled pork wrapped in Romaine lettuce, along with the vegetables, made for an incredibly satisfying bite. The hot pot ingredients also included special meatballs, such as basil+squid, as well as taro+fried onion, creating unexpectedly delicious and delightful combinations. It’s also worth mentioning that the rice served at the restaurant is locally sourced from Xiluo, with a chewy texture that pairs perfectly with the hot pot.
The meal concluded with a dessert of plum ice and coffee jelly, providing a perfect ending to this sumptuous feast. LaoLaiShou Hot Pot is not typical hot pot place. The chef puts great care into simmering the broth and carefully selects various ingredients, even introducing the latest trend of Korean BBQ. They’ve transformed what might seem like an ordinary hot pot into an extraordinary fusion experience—highly recommended!
