Located in Zhongxing New Village, Nantou, Meiyuan Pastry & Congee（梅園餡餅粥） is a must-visit local eatery. This spot offers a variety of authentic Chinese noodle dishes, including beef noodles, shaved noodles, pastry, spring onion pancakes, steamed dumplings, and braised dishes—all at affordable prices. For no reason, my parents suddenly wanted to visit my brother, who lives in Zhongxing New Village. When we got there, he took us to this restaurant for dinner.
The signature dish here is the beef noodles, with tender, flavorful beef and a rich broth that keeps you coming back for more. I had the stir-fried beef shaved noodles, and the noodles were perfectly chewy, complementing the beef for a delightful texture. Besides the noodles, their beef pastry and spring onion pancakes are also must-try items. The beef pastry is generously filled with a crispy exterior, and the spring onion pancakes are just as fragrant and crispy, making them hard to resist. Finally, we had the steamed dumplings, where the chive and meat filling were perfectly balanced in flavor, delicious even without dipping sauce.
Although we dined late, we still enjoyed a variety of dishes. The self-serve side dishes section offered many choices. We missed out on the millet congee, which had sold out, but overall, the dining experience was still satisfying. The food arrived quickly, and we ate just as fast—finishing within 15 minutes! Next time we’re in Zhongxing New Village, we’ll make sure to try Meiyuan’s millet congee!
