Dining in Taipei for Italian restaurant: Solo Pasta

This Italian restaurant is nestled in the alleys of Taipei’s East District—Solo Pasta. This spot is rumored to serve the best pasta in all of Taipei and has become a must-visit for pasta lovers. The restaurant’s stylish exterior, featuring brick walls and framed doors, exudes a strong European vibe, and the waiting customers can relax on the benches outside.

Upon entering, the warm lighting creates a cozy dining atmosphere. The packed house speaks volumes about the quality of the food here. The menu is diverse, offering both single-dish or full-set meals, which include appetizers, salads, main courses, desserts, and drinks. If you’re unsure what to order, the large chalkboard on the pillar lists the restaurant’s recommended dishes, making it easy for first-timers to choose.

I highly recommend their Wide Egg Pasta with Classical Meat Sauce(Pappardelle alla Bolognese Classico). The pasta is chewy and perfectly textured, pairing beautifully with the meat sauce and cheese. The sauce and cheese provide a savory base, but when combined with the pasta, a subtle sweetness from the meat shines through. You can even enjoy the texture of whole meat chunks in the sauce, making it a truly satisfying dish.

Another dish is the Grilled Pork Chop with Seasonal Salad(Costolette di Maiale Grigliata con Verdure). True to Italian culinary philosophy, where too much sauce can ruin a dish, this pork comes with no sauce at all—just a light seasoning of salt and pepper. The meat is tender and juicy, allowing the natural flavor of the pork to take center stage, proving that simplicity can indeed be delicious.

While Solo Pasta is priced in the mid-to-high range in Taipei, it deffience worth giving it a try when you visit Taipei, whether it’s the pasta or the grilled pork, Solo Pasta will satisfy all your cravings for authentic Italian cuisine.
