We stumbled upon Zhang’s Golden Sanxing Scallion Pancake（張家黃金三星蔥油餅） while walking from Jiaoxi Train Station to Ke’s Scallion Pancake. The long line at this small stall immediately caught our attention—just how delicious must it be to attract so many people?
The stall is run by a senior gentleman who single-handedly manages everything—from rolling the dough and stuffing the scallion pancakes to frying, handling payments, and packaging. Despite the workload, he was fully engaged and cheerful!
As we waited, we struck up a conversation with him. He enthusiastically recommended, “If it’s your first time, try the original scallion pancake!” Before we could even respond, he handed us one to try on the spot. And wow—it was incredible! The scallion pancake was perfectly crispy on the outside, packed with fragrant Sanxing scallions, and shaped in a unique snail-like swirl that locked in the freshness and natural sweetness of the scallions.
Next came our pork-filled scallion pancake, which added an extra layer of savory, juicy goodness. The combination of the crispy exterior, aromatic scallions, and flavorful meat made for a deeply satisfying bite.
This scallion pancake isn’t just a tourist favorite—it’s a must-have for locals returning to Jiaoxi! Many residents from other cities even pre-order whole boxes to take home and fry themselves. Because the owner insists on making everything by hand, the process takes a little longer, but the result is well worth the wait. With its affordable price, generous portions, and top-quality ingredients, this scallion pancake is one of the best-value finds in Jiaoxi, Yilan!
