A Parisian Gourmet Boutique: Fauchon Paris

The first time I heard about Fauchon Paris was during a Eurotrip, when a friend recommended I stop by during my stay in Paris. At first, I thought it was just a fancy pastry shop — only to discover later that it’s actually a luxury gourmet grocery store!

Located near Église de la Madeleine, Fauchon is less than a 10-minute walk from Galeries Lafayette, making it a perfect post-shopping destination for edible souvenirs or a little treat. My first visit was back in 2014, when Fauchon had two shops across the street from each other. By the time I returned in 2016, one was under renovation and all the products had moved into the remaining boutique.

The store’s interior is sleek and modern, decorated in black and Fauchon’s signature pink — giving off a stylish Parisian punk vibe. Their pastry counter is beautifully arranged, with desserts that look almost too pretty to eat. The chocolate selection is just as artistic. Upstairs, the gift section is filled with jams, honeys, and gourmet canned goods — each product neatly packed and beautifully designed. The small jars are perfect for gifts, and honestly, some are so lovely that you might hesitate to open them. They also offer gift sets in mini sizes. Just a heads up: the labels are mostly in French, with only images to guide you — so you’ll have to trust your instincts when picking flavours 🥹

  • Foie Gras (Goose Liver Pâté): No trip to Fauchon is complete without checking out their foie gras! But be careful — goose and duck liver pâtés look almost identical, and the only difference might be the small illustration on the label. Double-check before you buy. Taste-wise, it’s definitely a love-it-or-hate-it situation. Some friends were obsessed and asked me to bring back more. Others described it as “cheap meat paste,” “sour pig liver,” or “fancy cat food” — and yes, that was about a €30 can 😆
  • French Mustard Gift Set: Another crowd favourite is the mustard sampler. A box of five mini jars costs around €10 — budget-friendly and full of flavour. These mustards have a gentle kick and are amazing on toast. Friends who tried them gave rave reviews. If you enjoy bold flavours, this one’s for you.

After picking out gifts, I went back downstairs for my personal favourite: éclairs! I tried two flavours:

  • Eclair Caramel: Topped with a thin caramel glaze, filled with whipped cream. The caramel was slightly sweet with a gentle bitterness — rich and well-balanced.
  • Eclair Paris Brest (Caramel Hazelnut): This version had five mini cream puffs sandwiched inside, with hazelnut-caramel topping. The nutty caramel flavour made it more complex than the classic caramel one. Loved it even more!

I ended up spending over an hour in Fauchon and walked out with several bags of goodies. As I looked down at my haul, I had a sinking feeling: “This is going to be way over the baggage limit…”

Sure enough, at the airport my luggage was 10 kg overweight. I stood there debating whether to ditch my foie gras cans… but before I could decide, the plane took off without me 😭

Yep — I missed my flight and had to buy a new ticket home. All because I couldn’t part with those gourmet jars!

If you’re planning a trip to Paris, don’t miss Fauchon. It’s a perfect mix of French craftsmanship, luxury packaging, and gourmet flavour. Whether you’re picking up edible souvenirs or treating yourself to some high-end sweets, it’s well worth a visit.
