Guinness Storehouse
During my working holiday in Ireland, my Italian friends introduced me to Guinness beer. Its unique aroma, rich taste, and complex layers quickly made it one of my favourites. As Guinness originates from Ireland, it’s no surprise that the Guinness Storehouse has become one of Dublin’s most popular attractions. All tours came here to understand its history and culture better.
Irish Breakfast
Before heading to the storehouse, we enjoyed a Irish breakfast. The meal included two slices of toast, fried eggs, sausages, bacon, and two pieces of “black pudding”. Black pudding is a type of sausage made from pig’s blood mixed with fat and oatmeal (or other grains), cut sliced, and pan-fried.
Guinness Storehouse
As soon as we entered the storehouse, we were immediately focused on the big GUINNESS logo. The overall design is based on a black colour scheme with a gold logo, giving it a mystery and luxury feel. The black matches the colour of Guinness beer, and the souvenirs are primarily black with gold accents, making them look luxurious yet affordable.
The adult admission ticket is €16.5 (for the latest prices, please check the GUINNESS STOREHOUSE website). The ticket includes one glass of Guinness, which you can either pour yourself or redeem at the Gravity bar. Don’t forget to bring your passport, as you may need to show ID if you look young. Also, be sure to get the audio guide; it provides detailed explanations throughout the tour, so you won’t leave wondering what you just saw! 😂
Guinness Brewing Process and History
The tour starts with an introduction to the ingredients of Guinness beer, including barley, hops, yeast, and pure water. We then learned about Arthur Guinness who is the founder, and the brand’s history.
The tour continues with a detailed look at the brewing process, from roasting to mashing, boiling, and fermentation. While the process is fascinating, the most important part is, of course, tasting this historic beer.
Tasting Guinness Beer
We came across a golden, mysterious door. Once inside, a staff introduced us to the beer and gave us a small sample to taste. We then headed to the fifth-floor bar area, where you can pour your own pint of Guinness and even receive a certificate for memories.
On the sixth floor, there’s also Arthur’s Bar, where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy another Guinness. Finally, we arrived at the top level, the Gravity Bar. Here, you can exchange your tasting voucher for a glass of Guinness and take it to the window to enjoy a 360-degree view of Dublin. The sight, paired with a pint, is absolutely wonderful.
After finishing the tour, it was time to say goodbye to the Guinness Storehouse. One ticket not only provides insight into the history of Guinness but also lets you taste an authentic Guinness beer. It’s definitely worth the price and highly recommended for any Guinness enthusiast! (Though I wish there was a pool of Guinness to swim in…)
