When it comes to London’s markets, places like Borough or Camden usually steal the spotlight. But if you want something more local, laid-back, and full of character, Broadway Market in Hackney is a hidden gem you don’t want to miss. Nestled between Regent’s Canal and London Fields, this lively outdoor food and shopping street only comes alive on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. While the restaurants and shops along the street are open throughout the week, the street market itself is a Saturday-only affair — so plan your visit accordingly!
Among the many unique vendors here, one stall that really stood out was FIN + FLOUNDER, located toward the far end of the market. At first glance, it might seem like your average burger-and-fries stand — but take a closer look and you’ll spot a massive lobster on display, practically begging for your attention. It’s their show-stopper and definitely draws a crowd.
The menu is short and sweet, with just 9 items, but each one sounds so tempting it’s hard to choose. Thankfully, the stall has physical food models on display, so even if you’re not confident reading English menus, you’ll know exactly what you’re ordering. After placing your order, you’re handed a number and asked to wait behind the stall so the line doesn’t block the walkway — a thoughtful touch in such a bustling spot. The service was quick, and our food was ready in about 10 minutes — just enough time for a little stroll through nearby stalls.
- Lobster Mac & Cheese: I had high hopes for this one, and it didn’t disappoint! I initially thought the whole bowl would be filled with lobster, but turns out the lobster was only on top, while the base was classic mac and cheese. Still, the lobster was sweet and tender, and the flavor carried beautifully through the dish. The portion was generous for the price, and the creamy pasta paired perfectly with the richness of the seafood. For just £9? Total steal!
- Crab Cake Brioche: This burger-sized brioche was stuffed with a thick crab cake — not entirely crab meat, but you could definitely taste the crab flavor. It was juicy thanks to the sauce, and not dry at all. The brioche bun was soft and buttery, holding everything together beautifully. At only £6.50, it felt like a great deal for a hearty seafood burger in central London.
If you’re a seafood lover or just want to enjoy some good food while soaking in the vibes of a local London street market, FIN + FLOUNDER at Broadway Market is 100% worth adding to your itinerary. They also have a brick-and-mortar shop that specializes in fresh seafood, but their market stall brings the same quality to the street, at a great price.
