When it comes to sushi in London, it’s everywhere — from chains like Wasabi and Daily Sushi, to even supermarkets like TESCO or M&S selling pre-packaged rolls. But let’s be honest — they’re usually not great and definitely not cheap. A tiny box of four or five pieces can easily set you back £3 to £5, and even the most basic supermarket sushi will cost you £2–£3 — often for a dry, flavorless bite. So unless you’re really craving sushi, most of us tend to just walk on by.
I first discovered Sushimania during a friend’s birthday dinner, and I’ve been hooked ever since. The food is fresh, the menu is huge, and most importantly — it’s all-you-can-eat for just £16.80. In a city like London? That’s almost too good to be true.
Of course, with such amazing value, the restaurant is always packed, especially on weekends. Reservations are absolutely essential, otherwise, you’ll just be watching others enjoy their sushi feast while you wait outside.
This time, I had the pleasure of returning to the Golders Green branch (they have several locations). It’s about a 10-minute walk from the Golders Green tube station (Northern line). We had a 7 PM reservation and were seated right on time.
Don’t let the casual vibe fool you — Sushimania offers a massive selection of Japanese dishes, and you can order anything from the menu. Here’s a glimpse of what we devoured:
- Sashimi Sushi Rolls: Fresh and full of flavor. The avocado pairing with sashimi was unexpectedly refreshing.
- Tempura Shrimp: A bit dry, but still satisfying after craving tempura-style bites for so long.
- Salmon Sashimi: Absolutely delicious! Melt-in-your-mouth quality. Highly recommended!
- Fried Dumplings: Pretty decent; nothing fancy.
- Agedashi Tofu: Crispy on the outside, soft and silky inside. A touch of soy sauce brings out the natural soy flavor beautifully.
- Karaage Chicken: Super juicy with a hint of sweetness. We ordered two rounds — couldn’t stop!
- Shrimp Nigiri: Simple, standard, and comforting.
- Avocado Salmon Hand Roll: Can’t go wrong with this classic combo. So creamy and flavorful.
- Tuna Sashimi: Very fresh and high quality!
- Grilled Eel Sushi: Another hit! Slightly sweet and savory with just the right amount of sauce.
- Grilled Fish: Our final dish of the night. Honestly, the fishy smell was strong — not a favorite, but a bold end to a full meal.
By the end of the meal, we were absolutely stuffed, yet had spent less than £20 per person (drinks are extra). With all that fresh sashimi? I seriously started wondering how the restaurant makes a profit 😅. But for customers like us, it’s a dream come true.
In a pricey city like London, finding quality all-you-can-eat Japanese food for under £20 is nearly unheard of. Sushimania truly hit the spot and made us feel right at home — even thousands of miles from Japan.
