When people think of Taiwan, one of the first things that comes to mind is beef noodle. After moving to Vancouver, I tried many beef noodle spots but couldn’t find a good one—until a friend recommended No. 1 Beef Noodle. I quickly realized I’d been missing out!
I’ve been back many times now, trying various kinds of beef noodle, like the Beef Shank Noodle, Prawn Wontons & Beef Shank Noodle Soup, House Special Beef Noodle Soup, and Tomato & Beef Shank Noodle Soup. Each beef noodle soup has the same rich and savory broth, with tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef shank. The shrimp is plump and adds a unique texture, while the thin noodles. Every option is well worth savoring.
- Dumplings in Chili Sauce(Chive, Shrimp & Pork): Perfect for spice lovers! These dumplings are packed with flavorful filling and tender, juicy meat.
- Crispy Chicken Wings: The skin is fried to a perfect crisp, while the inside remains juicy and tender—just be careful as they come out piping hot.
- ShangHai Style Pork Dumpling: This one is decent.
- Oolong Milk Tea Boba Ice Cream Bar & Oat Pearl Ice Cream Bar: Rich and creamy with a nice tea flavor, though the pearls are a bit firm due to freezing.
- Tiramisu Cheesecake: Smooth and fluffy with a hint of bittersweet cocoa powder. The sweetness level is just right.
- Matcha Cheesecake: A must-try for matcha fans, as it combines matcha flavor with a subtle creaminess without being overly sweet.
On my first visit, I didn’t have a reservation and waited about 15 minutes. While waiting, I noticed the No.1 Fine Food Market next door, which sells many of the restaurant’s products. If you live farther away, you can grab some frozen items to prepare at home—though I’m not sure if they’d taste quite the same!
No. 1 Beef Noodle House is undoubtedly one of the spots in Vancouver to enjoy authentic Taiwanese beef noodles, on par with what you’d find in Taiwan itself. The only downside is the limited parking, which can make finding a spot a bit challenging. Thankfully, there’s a bus stop right in front, so if you’d prefer not to drive, taking public transit is a very convenient option.
