Mexican Cuisine in Torrey, Utah: Chak Balam Mexican Restaurant

After our road trip through Capitol Reef National Park, we set off back to Las Vegas and passed through the small, peaceful town of Torrey, Utah. Despite its modest size, Torrey has several dining options. We were pretty hungry by the middle of the day, so we chose to stop for lunch at Chak Balam Mexican Restaurant.

The decor in Chak Balam has a rustic charm; it’s cozy and inviting. A striking mounted deer head above the seating area adds a hint of wilderness to the space. The menu here offers a variety of authentic Mexican dishes, each more tempting than the last. After some deliberation, we selected a few of the signature Mexican dishes they’re known for:

California Style Grilled Chicken Burrito
This burrito is packed with fresh vegetables, grilled chicken, rice, beans, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream, all paired with a refreshing Pico de Gallo salsa. The grilled chicken and guacamole are go perfectly together, creating a light yet satisfying dish with a layered flavor profile.
Barbacoa Enchiladas
This dish features 3 small enchiladas filled with slow-cooked barbacoa beef, topped with red sauce, sour cream, and a sprinkle of Mexican cheese, accompanied by a small salad. The beef is tender and melts in your mouth, balancing beautifully with the creaminess of the sour cream and the tangy red sauce.
Chicken Enmoladas
Another set of 3 enchiladas filled with chicken and cheese, but covered in rich mole sauce, garnished with sour cream, Mexican cheese, and fresh avocado slices. The mole is aromatic and intense, with a distinct flavor, and the chicken is tender, making each bite enjoyable.
Pork Chimichangas
These crispy, stuffed rolls feature seasoned pork with cheese and guacamole. The pork is well-seasoned and tender, the exterior crisp, and the portion size generous—a great value for money.

Chak Balam impresses not only with its authentic flavors and generous portions but also with its quality. The prices are a bit high, but the experience is well worth it. If you ever find yourself passing through Torrey and have a taste for Mexican cuisine, this restaurant should definitely be on your list!
